Microsoft Windows Update is extremely important to the security of
any windows computer connecting to the internet. It provides
Microsoft with a way of fixing known bugs and security
vulnerablities on your Windows system. Without these security
fixes you are leaving your computer exposed to virus and
hacking threats on the internet. In any case, your computer
will function better and be safer if you apply at LEAST the
critical updates.
Using Windows Update
NOTE: Windows Update may not perform the steps in this guide exactly as depicted

STEP 1: Open up Internet Explorer on your computer and type in windowsupdate.microsoft.com into the address bar

STEP 2: If this is the first time you have ran windows update you will need to allow it to run the Active X controller. If a dialog box comes up asking you if you would like to run the script, accept it. Click on Express Install

STEP 3: Windows will now check your computer to see what updates you already have installed. This could take a few minutes depending on what kind of connection you are using.

STEP 4: After windows is done examining your computer it will give you a list of all the updates available for your computer. Now click on Install...
|

STEP 5: Carefully read the eula provided in the dialog box. After reading it, click on I Accept if you accept the terms of the eula

STEP 6: At this point windows will begin to download all of the updates and install them. This could take a while even if you are on a broadband internet connection. Go grab a cup of coffee and check on your computer regularly until it has finished
